Secretary Steven Chu announced the potential stateallocation “Appliances consume a huge amount of our so there’s enormous potential to both save energuy and save families money every month,” Chu “These rebates will help familiex make the transition to more efficient making purchases that will directly stimulate the economy and creatw jobs.
” The new program underscorezs the Obama Administration’s commitment to make Americabn homes more energy efficient, while helping to support the nation’ss economic recovery. The new funding will be awarded to stateszand territories, through their energgy offices, using a formula set forth in the Energh Policy Act of 2005. Each state or territoryt is required to submit a plan that specifies whichg Energy Star appliance categoriew will be included in theirdrebate program, the rebate level for each productg type, how the rebates will be processed, and their plan for recycliny old appliances.
States and territories must first file an initiak application expressing their intent to participatesby Aug. 15, followed by a full applicationby Oct. 15. Approximatelu 10-25 percent of each award will be spent onadministrative
