The threde projects include paving all of Rivee Road andProvidence Avenue, and 1.8 miless of Rosendale Road, county Public Works Director Josepnh Ryan said. All three roads are approachingthe county’s 10-year paving schedule. Without the the work likely would havebeen delayed; the county exceedefd its $3.3 million annual budget when it made emergencu repairs due to last year’s storms, Ryan said. The three road projectx are 100 percentfederally funded. They qualify for stimulus money because they are part of the federal highway system, Ryan said. Work will be performede by private contractors.
Bids will be releasede around July. This award is the firstt stimulus money received for roadwork inSchenectadhy County. The county pushed the projectxs because they have high traffic counts of morethan 15,000 vehicles a day, a factor that weighs heavily in the decision-making. “These were the top threwe roads to meetthe criteria,” Ryan said. All the county requested $15 million for 17 Ryan said he hasn’t heard if more highway moneyis forthcoming.
